Instander 18.0 for Android (unofficial Instagram mod)

Instander 18.0 is an unofficial, modified version of Instagram for Android made by an independent developer known as TheDise. Before you download Instander for Android, keep in mind that it is not published by Instagram or Meta, and that signing in with a modified app can get an Instagram account restricted or banned.

Quick facts

• Version: 18.0
• Developer: TheDise (not affiliated with Meta)
• Platform: Android
• Type: unofficial Instagram mod
• Licence: freeware
• Google Play: not available
• Size: about 63.22 MB according to catalogue data

What it is

Instander takes the Instagram app and changes it. Mods of this kind typically add options the original does not offer, such as saving media or changing how the interface behaves, while connecting to Instagram's servers with your real account. That is the core issue. Instagram's terms do not allow third-party apps that access the service in unauthorised ways, and Meta can detect such clients. The developer is not accountable in the way the service owner is, the code cannot be checked by an ordinary user, and updates come from an unofficial website rather than a store with security review. Your login, messages and photos pass through an app built by someone you do not know.

Risks you should know

• Account restriction or a permanent ban for using an unauthorised client.
• Possible hidden code: modified APK files are a common way to spread spyware and steal login data.
• No official support and no guarantee that the app keeps working after Instagram changes.
• Copies on APK sites may differ from the developer's build and be tampered with.

If you want to test it

1. Do not use your main account or your main phone.
2. Use a spare device or an Android virtual device in the Android Studio emulator.
3. Sign in only with a test account you can afford to lose.
4. Remove the app when you are done.

The official app

The official Instagram on Google Play is free, comes from Meta, receives security updates and keeps your account in good standing. If you already used a mod, switch back to the official app, change your Instagram password and turn on two-factor authentication.

Requirements

Instander needs an Android device; there is no official requirements list, and it is not distributed through Google Play.

Price

The mod is listed as free. Anyone asking you to pay for it or to install extra apps to unlock it is a clear warning sign.

Pros and cons

• Pro: extra options that the official app lacks.
• Con: not from Instagram or Meta.
• Con: risk of account ban.
• Con: risk of malware and stolen login data.
